## Who we are
Our website address is: https://tokyoparents.com. TokyoParents is an independent editorial site publishing guides for families living in or moving to Tokyo.
## What we collect
**Analytics.** We use Google Analytics (via Site Kit) to understand which pages are useful and how visitors find the site. This collects standard web analytics data such as pages visited, approximate location (country/city level), device type, and referring site. We do not use this data to identify individual visitors.
**Newsletter sign-up.** If you subscribe to updates, we collect the email address you provide. We use it only to send you TokyoParents updates, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
**Comments.** When you leave a comment, we collect the data shown in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. An anonymized hash of your email address may be shared with the Gravatar service to display a profile picture; see [Automattic’s privacy policy](https://automattic.com/privacy/) for details. Once a comment is approved, your name and comment are publicly visible.
**Cookies.** If you comment, you may opt in to a cookie that remembers your name, email and website for future comments (lasts one year). Logging in sets standard WordPress session cookies. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies beyond what Google Analytics sets for aggregate site statistics.
## Embedded content
Some articles may embed content (e.g. maps, videos) from other websites. That content behaves exactly as if you visited the other website directly, and the embedding site may collect data about your interaction with it under its own privacy policy.
## Media
If you upload images (for example, in a comment or submission), avoid images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) — this data can be extracted by anyone who downloads the image.
## How long we retain data
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize legitimate follow-up comments. Newsletter email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics’ standard retention settings.
## Your rights
You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you (comments, newsletter subscription), or request that we delete it, by emailing **[hello@tokyoparents.com](mailto:hello@tokyoparents.com)**. This does not include data we’re required to retain for legal or security purposes.
## Who we share data with
We don’t sell visitor data. We share data only with the service providers needed to run the site: Google (Analytics), our email newsletter provider, and an automated spam-detection service for comments. If you request a password reset (for registered users), your IP address is included in the reset email as a standard WordPress security measure.
