Our approach
TokyoParents covers topics that materially affect a family’s legal status, health, and finances — visas, insurance, childcare subsidies, school enrollment. We treat that seriously.
How we research
- We ground guides in publicly documented processes: national visa and insurance requirements, and the procedures Tokyo’s ward offices and childcare system actually follow.
- Where a rule or process varies by ward — which is common for daycare admissions and some subsidies — we say so explicitly instead of generalizing one ward’s policy to all of Tokyo.
- We link to source material where we can, and we recommend confirming time-sensitive specifics (application windows, income thresholds, subsidy amounts) directly with your ward office before relying on them, since these details can change and can vary by individual circumstance.
What we’re not
We’re not immigration lawyers, doctors, or a substitute for your ward office’s own guidance. TokyoParents is a starting point for understanding how a process works and what to prepare for — not a final source for a decision with legal or financial consequences. For anything with real stakes (a visa application, a medical decision), confirm details with the relevant official office or a qualified professional.
Corrections
Rules change, and we won’t always catch it immediately. If you find something out of date or inaccurate, email us at hello@tokyoparents.com — corrections are the highest-priority messages we receive, and we update the relevant guide as soon as we can confirm the change.
About this site’s current state
TokyoParents is actively being rebuilt around original, Tokyo-specific content. If you land on a thin or generic page, it’s a sign of work in progress, not a finished guide — check back, or email us if you need something we haven’t covered yet.
